The CSU Graduate School organized a seminar on the Implications of Social Change for Countering Violent Extremism on January 19, 2023. The activity was facilitated by PD 704 students under the direction of Dr. Norodin Salam. Student officers from each program of the eight colleges attended the program. Since the participants are the future leaders of their societies, Dr. Salam stressed the importance of understanding peace in his welcome remarks. The Dean of the Graduate School, Dr. Tarhata S. Guiamalon, emphasized in her message that we should all be aware of the current realities of our community.
Everybody knows that we face numerous difficulties that hinder our growth and development as individuals and as a nation. In his Inspirational Message, the University President Dr. Sema G. Dilna, emphasized that CSU is committed to being a key driver and key player in bringing social change to the community. Providing appropriate awareness to the community is pivotal in maintaining peace and order. In addition, he said that the Cotabato State University is committed to achieving its vision that---the Cotabato State University shall be a world-class education hub for sustainable, inclusive, and transformative peace and development in southern Philippines.
The lecturer was Col. Edgar L. Cato, the Chief of Staff of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division of the Philippine Army. According to him, to enjoy lasting peace in the southern Philippines and the rest of the world, we must educate ourselves on the diverse issues affecting our nation nowadays. We must also be proactive in educating our communities about the explosive issues affecting peace and order. We must avoid violent extremism and armed conflict in order to enjoy lasting peace in that region and in the entire world. // Tarhata Piang Solaiman-Guiamalon
